In 2019, our key focus was UK emergency services. We took to the road and toured the UK to demonstrate how frontline services could benefit from using what3words to help find people faster. We did this by touring most of the forces in the UK and a big marketing push with many types of assets. From video to stills, from toolkits to interviews and endorsements...
Over 80% of emergency services in the UK have now integrated what3words, and the list is still growing. Services are encouraging people to download the what3words app and are posting stories of rescues using it on social media, which has created ongoing awareness and downloads.
We supplemented this with paid, digital download ads with emergency messaging as well as national and regional PR. In August this culminated in a widespread BBC news article that rocketed our user figures, made us top of mind for a lot more people, and drove further businesses and services to integrate us at a more rapid pace.
This made the emergency services message spread internationally and helped what3words brand out into roadside recovery, health and safety, and many other businesses in the UK.
